Me and some of my poker friends are thinking of doing a road trip to Tunica in the next month or so for a weekend poker road trip.

Being a first time trip I was hoping that maybe some of the AnteUp Nation had suggestion of good places for poker tournments and cash games.

Places that are top of your list to play at while there and the places to avoid while there.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts and advice.

My prefered place to stay when in Tunica is The Grand. They offer a 25$ week day poker room rate for a double occupancy room (suitable for up to 4 people, if you do not mind sharing the large queen sized beds). The only requirement is that you book 5 hours per day in the poker room. That 5 hours per day is based on the ROOM though, not the players using the room. 4 people together need only book 1.25 hrs each to qualify. In 2002, my first trip, the offer was open for play at ANY limit, including the $2/$4 baby limit HE. My prefered game is 10/20 and 30/60 limit HE though (with some 1/2 NLHE for spice!), and the poker room manager offered this discount without me asking. You may have to enquire...

Additionally, tournies abound in Tunica.

The Grand runs medium buy-in events most days of the week, and almost all the card rooms will have small daily buy in events daily. Of note though are the "no vig" tournies (well...SNGs really) held at Resorts. On my last trip (Jan 08), Resorts was offering $300 added tournies on their electronic poker tables. Since the tournies are capped at 50 people (I think), but NEVER approach that number, all of the vig is returned to the prize pool. I played one with 9 buddies, and we had the 100$ in vig added back to the total pool. These are 50$+10$ buy in's, and are held in the evenings. Overall the Resorts room is quiet, secluded, and offers a very wide range of menu items for free with play. They also offer no rake for HU play on their tables, and a minimal 50c rake for 3 way play. This is especially valuable as they also offer a "squares" type pool on college and pro football games- any time a pot is won with 88 or better (does not have to be pocket 8s either), you get a square. Me and a friend sat there for 3 hours playing HU 1/2 NLHE, and checked down every hand. We won 68 squares before another person joined us. Over the next 2 hours the 3 of us filled the board, and between me and my friend, we held 82 squares by checking down hands. Of the 500$ prize pool, we took 350$, paid a grand total of 12.50$ in rake (split), drank free beer, and ate free food for 5 hours, and gained priceless info on the "value-added" nature of palying certain casinoes for every edge you can get!

Now I cannot say whether the pools are still on with fottball season passed, but you might want to take a look during the week at around 10am. no matter what you think about electronic table play, this was a deal that could not be matched!

Thanks for the information.....We had the push the trip back a little due to one of our friends having a family health issue, but do still plan to go once things settle down. The information is great to know. It makes it a little easier for our first trip.

Thanks again.
